Brown Sugar #196 - For the Boys - 29/04/2016
Our sponsor t\at Brown Sugar this week is
IMAGINE THAT
Prize - $10 gift certificate
Sadly, this is my last project for the Brown Sugar Challenges, I have been on the Design Team for a number of years, but lately life has become a bit complicated with an elderly relative and I have had to step down. For my last project I chose "Icecream Boy", love doing digital layouts and this precoloured image and a poem I found on line matched wonderfully. I'm thinking of having it printed and framed for a little boy I know.
The dog kennel, paw prints and leash come from a kit "Doggy Treats" by Retro Designs.

From The Heart - Time to Bloom
The beautiful set by From The heart" for April is called "Time To Bloom". Where I live April is the middle month of Autumn, and this year we are experiencing a beautiful Indian Summer, with the gorgeous tones of Autumn everywhere.
I have used the main image, a small image and one of the sentiments for my card.
Keeping with Autumnal colours, I have used pencils and copic pens to colour the images. Fussy cut and layered onto brown cardstock. Glitter has been used on some of the flowers as has liquid pearls for the centres. Gold ink and glitter has also been used on the clock and the butterfly. I added the butterfly to the main image and then printed it again, layering with 3d squares for some dimension.

Winter is Coming
Had a bit of fun making a fat page with Ikes "Tatty Wetty Kitty". This is being stuck on the fridge to remind my family that I am not the happiest person in winter, which for us is officially about 5 weeks away.
No coat is warm enough, no shoes are dry enough, no umbrella is big enough.Coloured with copic pens, rain is blue dimensional ink and blue glitter for the puddle. Hand written sign to remind everyone.

Brown Sugar #192 - Anything Goes - 1/04/2016
The Brown Sugar challenge this week is sponsored by
I chose Sassy Leo this week. Perfect image for another page in my song journal. "I am Woman" a great song by Helen Reddy and Ray Burton.
I'm old enough to remember when this song first came out, a song Helen wrote to go on her " I don't know how to love him" album. It was tweaked a bit the year after and the second version is the one that took off. Not being a feminist I only see this song as part of the women's liberation movement, 40 years ago. A song I love as much for the words as for the tune, a song that I sung over and over when I was being treated for breast cancer. I think it a song that a lot of people can relate to for various reasons.
Sassy Leo has been coloured with copic pens and fussy cut to place on the page.

Fold and crease along the score lines.
For the pages, score at 2.5; 5 and 7.5 inches, and then fold.
Depending on how many pages you wish to have in your little books,
you will need to join the pieces together. Place glue on one edge.
Join to another edge.
(Tip: instead of glue, you could place tape down the two sides and bottom, join them and you will have a little pocket)
Starting from the front, 1 strip, middle is 2 strips and back is 3 strips.
Attach pages to cover by placing some glue around the edges of the inside of the cover.
Place end of strip on glue.
Fold up pages and turn book around. Repeat process by placing glue on the other inside of cover and glue down the other end of the pages.
I usually find 3 strips give a good deal of pages.
In the photo, the white pages are 3 strips, the cream 2 strips.
This is purely a personal thing, even 1 strip works.
Time to decorate.
When decorating with trims, do not forget the back of the cover.
Images and Trim make great covers. I do not use 3d squares on these books, but glue the images to the cover, to ensure they stay in place.
These little books are great for sticking in small bags, where you can't fit your diary. This means you still have something to jot down those phone numbers, names etc. when you are out and about.
Children love them for their size.
You could attach photos of grandchildren to the pages and give as a gift to a grandparent.
I hope you enjoy making these little books.
