"Cass Creating Now Tutorial" - Altered Match Boxes - 7/3/2015

Hi! I'm Cass and I am a Guest Designer today at robyn's Fetish Challenge Blog for this tutorial.  

Today, I am going to show you how to alter a matchbox.

ALTERED MATCHBOXES

Match boxes are great for creating little treasure boxes for small things and for gift boxes.  They can also be 

mounted in a box frame to hang on a wall etc. 

Supplies

Matchboxes (different sizes)

Mod Podge (or something similar)

(Glue Stick can work well also)

Coloured images

I have used "Chicky Chick,"  "Beautiful Christmas Wreath,"  "Fruity Strawberries,"  "Basket of Apples," "Apple with Smart Worm,"  "Flowers for Mom,"  "Heloise Garden Gal," and "Sunflower 2"

Then go to your stash and find all those little pieces of ribbon,
scraps of paper and any embellishments you can find in your stash.

 Remember these boxes can be quite small, so you only need little bits and pieces.

Matchboxes

These are the four sizes I found in my local supermarket.

I am using the 2.75 x 2 inch box (the second smallest) for demonstration purposes.

You need to measure the paper the length of the box, in this case 2.75 inches.  The best way to find out how long your paper needs to be is to wrap the paper around the box.

Once done I needed a piece of paper 2.72 wide x  6.5 inches long.

Mark with a pencil where you need to cut.

Here are the cut pieces,  one for each Match box.

Double check that you have the measurements correct

 by wrapping your cut paper around the Matchbox.

The paper has to wrap around the box completely.

Place glue on the box

Make sure that the start and finish points meet at one of the small sides. 

Start wrapping the paper around the glued box.

This will then give you a seam that you are going to hide.

Once the box is covered, you can start to decorate with embellishments. 

 Rub some glue down the small side of the box.

Glue some ribbon/lace/edging down the side.   This will cover the seam.

Then do the same on the other side.

Glue the image to the top of the box.   I have printed and coloured the flower twice.

(Tip: to ensure 3d dots adhere strongly, use a little glue before you add the 3d dot.)

Then attach to image.

Here is my finished Matchbox, I have added a pearl to the centre 

of the flower and a pearl flourish to the sides of the flower.

(Tip: I rarely use a flourish in one piece. 

Try cutting your flourish into smaller pieces to add to your projects)

Here is my collection of Matchboxes. I needed some red ric rac and only had orange.

(Tip: Use your pens to colour ribbon, lace, ric rac etc. to match the colours you require.)
